This is a new project for me, but one that has been going on at CCRMA / Stanford for a while now: using the internet as a medium for concert performance. Check it out here.
I am to be trying it out from here in Edinburgh and in London from December, so will look forward to [...]
Today’s task is to not make a fool of myself.
I’m filming my identity spot for the Spirit of Scotland. It’s being shown when the citation reader says “and the nominees are…“. For it, I’m playing a terrific new piece by Tommy Hewitt Jones which he so kindly wrote for me the other day. UPDATE: No speaking involved! [...]
October 23rd 2009. In a mere 8,186 hours time, Coffeeloop will officially launch in London at a really exciting new venue - we’re keeping it under wraps for now, but believe me when I tell you that it’s utterly stunning and like nothing you’ve experienced before. Keep track of the time here.
Starting in January 2009, we will [...]
I visited the new Kings Place last night for the opening concerts… see some pictures and read my thoughts on it!
Hello!
Just back from in-i at the NT. It was a closed dress rehearsal, but it was stunning. There isn’t a lot I can say about it really - the set is astonishingly minimal (obviously good), the acting is stunning, the dancing inspiring and the music luscious. Sound OK to you?
Make sure that you get tickets [...]
Tonight was the stunning performance of Jenny Olivia Johnson’s work, “Leaving Santa Monica” at the stunning Musikgebouw, Amsterdam [below]
The acoustics were incredible and her piece, nominated for the Gaudeamus Prize, was astonishing and was received suitable by a huge audience.
It was a real pleasure to be there!
Two posts in one week, Peter? Are you mad?!
No, I’m not. Let me assure you of that before we continue.
The wonderful Max Richter (currently writing me a cello & electronics piece) has just put up a website for his latest release, 24 Postcards.
There isn’t a whole lot I can say about it objectively, but as [...]
Hello again! Sorry it’s been a while since my last post - things have been manically busy!
A few updates:
SPEM will be visiting America in October! I’m very excited to say we’ll be performing the concert in Boston with a new piece by Max Richter. Keep checking back here for more information.
Today, I was in recording [...]
Last night saw the performances of the Boulez, Cashian and Villa-Lobos I mentioned last week. It went really well (better than expected!) and I think the audience were pleasantly surprised. It was a great event to be a part of; Darren and Olly are super stars!
In other follow up news, this morning (8am) was my [...]
On June 11th in the Duke’s Hall, London, I will be playing (along with 6 others) Messagequisse by Pierre Boulez alongside a new work by Philip Cashian.
Both are ferociously difficult, but both are rewarding to play in. It should be a fascinating concert, and soloist extraordinaire Olly Coates, is in the hot seat for the [...]
I was playing at the Sounds New festival in Canterbury yesterday - it was fantastic! They had some amazing concerts with such an impressive (and rare) outlook on contemporary music… I was performing Gaia Sketches, an early work for HyperBow, and we had so many interesting questions at the end - it was amazing.
Am in [...]
Am in Amsterdam at the moment having lessons with the incredible Pieter Wispelwey.
Next week, I’m performing Pat Nunn’s Gaia Sketches in Canterbury, then it’s off to Edinburgh to fully prepare for SPEM.
I’m in my final week of being at the amazing Banff Centre in Canada. I’ve been here for six weeks, and it’s just amazing.
So, what have I been doing? Well, I’ve been recording my debut CD, SPEM in my studio hut (see below). Literally completed the other day, I’m yet to listen back to all [...]
